Geri's Post - Customer Service Training

Friday, December 18, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

As part of my training, I spend each Thursday afternoon learning a different part of the Customer Service Assistant role. So far I have spent time with colleagues from the Distribution team, who are responsible for looking after customers who buy our products in bulk (wholesalers) to sell onto other companies in smaller quantities and also the Direct team, who look after customers who use our products to manufacture the end product to sell on.
During my training, they have shown me a range of things including:

  • How to complete GNRs (Goods return notice, this is the process we have to follow when a customer returns a product to allow it to be credited and put back onto stock)
  • Updating price sheets
  • How to organise a workflow
  • Who to ring when I need specific information

When I am not spending time with someone one on one, I organise orders in the systems and arrange deliveries, this all gives me the opportunity to speak to customers and develop my confidence on the telephone.

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you have found it interesting! Our next blog will come in the New Year, so we hope you have a great Christmas and look out for more posts in 2016.

Lewis's Post - 3rd Year Fabrication with the Christof Group

Tuesday, December 08, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

During my last six months I have spent my time with the Christof fabrication Team. The Christof Company are contracted in by EGGER to support the Mechanical Engineering department and their team is made up of 7 Fabricators and one Machinist.
During our apprenticeship we are required to spend 6 months with them, gaining a large amount of specific fabrication skills which can be applied a variety of jobs. These skills are acquired on a day to day basis while fabricating large and intricate structures.

These skills include:

·         MIG/TIG/MMA Welding
      ·         Oxyacetylene cutting
      ·         Grinding
      ·         Bending
      ·         Tool sharpening
      ·         Plasma Cutting
      ·         Rolling sheet metal
      ·         Using our automated bender

During this 6 months, I have contributed to large renewal projects which have been completed by the Christof team alongside EGGER’s Mechanical Engineering department.

The job I have benefitted from the most was the hacked chip push floor renewal, as this job included all of the skills listed above as we had to fabricate and install the floor.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Chirstof and this month I will be starting the shift working part of my apprenticeship, which means working with our highly skilled Mechanical Engineering shift team.

Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you have found it interesting! Geri will write our next blog and give you an insight into the training she is currently doing.

Meet the final three members of our social media team, our Electrical Apprentices!

Wednesday, November 25, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

Within our final introduction blog, read about Ben, Ryan and George, three of our electrical apprentices in Hexham!
Ryan, Second Year Apprentice (I am on the left)
  • When did you join EGGER: 2014, after 6th Form where I studied BTECs in Creative and Media alongside Triple Award Sport Science at Queen Elizabeth High School.
  • Why did you choose EGGER: I have always had an interest in Electrics and when I saw the advert for the Apprentice Open Day in the local paper and heard about it at school, I thought it would be an interesting option for me after I finished school. I really enjoyed the Open Day and it gave me a lot of information about how good of an employer EGGER were and what the apprenticeship scheme had to offer.
  • What are you currently working on: Having recently come on site following my year at Rolls Royce and TyneMet College, I have joined the Site Services team and am shadowing their electricians and helping with basic tasks whilst I get used to the site.

George, Third Year Apprentice (I am in the middle)
  • When did you join EGGER: 2013, after completing my A-levels in PE, Economics, Product Design and Engineering at Queen Elizabeth High School.
  • Why did you choose EGGER: I wanted to become an apprentice at EGGER for a number of reasons, one was the number of friends I had who were already doing their apprenticeship at EGGER and all the good things they had to say about it. It is also a large employer, close to where I live which was ideal and I have always had an interest in Engineering and I thought this would be the ideal opportunity for me gain qualifications within the sector.
  • What are you currently working on: I have recently begun my first section of process training on Impregnation. Process training involves spending a month on each of the four main sections of the board making process, learning the process and getting to know the operators on the line. You are given a process and a technical question for each section. You then prepare and present a PowerPoint presentation to a range of managers, answering the questions given.
Ben, Final Year Apprentice (I am on the right)
  • When did you join EGGER: 2012, straight after my A-Levels in ICT, Sports Science and Science at Prudhoe High School.
  • Why did you choose EGGER: My Dad is a supervisor within the Raw Board Production part of the plant, so I knew a lot about EGGER from him. I also had an interest in Electrical Engineering, so I came along to the Apprentice Open Day and was impressed by the size of the plant and the chance it would give me to gain hands on electrical experience.
  • What are you currently working on: I am working in the recycling part of production and getting an understanding of how that part contributes to the whole process. I have also just been given my final year project which I will be working on and providing updates for in a future blog.

Thank you for reading our blog, we hope you have found it interesting! During our next blogs we will be giving you more of an insight into the work that we do and the projects that we are involved in, so keep an eye out for those!

Meet Abby, Geri and Matty, 3 more of our Social Media Team!

Monday, November 16, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

Abby and Matty are our most recent Business Administration Apprentices and Geri  is our Administrative Support Assistant based at Hexham, here is a little introduction to each of them:
My name is: Abby (I am on the one of the left)
When did you join EGGER: 2015, following my A-Levels in English, Sociology and Business Studies at Queen Elizabeth High School.
Why did you choose EGGER: After finishing my A-Levels I decided that University was not the option for me. At this point I decided to apply for an apprenticeship instead, as this would provide both an education and the work experience that is valued in future job prospects. I believe EGGER is the best Company for me, as the departments you work in as a Business Apprentice are those that had interested me whilst I had been studying business.
What are you currently working on: My first placement block is within the Customer Service department, where I am helping to obtain orders from customers and using our internal server to create orders and deliveries.

My name is: Geri (I am on the right)
When did you join EGGER: 2015, following my A-Levels in Applied Science, Business Studies and Creative Media Production at Prudhoe Community High School.
Why did you choose EGGER: I had heard from a friend, who was already doing their apprenticeship at EGGER, about the Business Administration scheme which interested me so I decided to along to the Open Day. This event gave me all the information I required and made me realise that this was something I was interested in pursuing. Although I did originally apply for the Business   Administration apprentice role, I was offered the Administrative Support Assistant position, based within the Customer Services department. Although I am not on the rotational apprenticeship scheme, I have been offered the same opportunities as the other apprentices; including completing the same qualification as them, the only real difference being that I do not rotate around   departments; which all in all, I feel is the best direction for me.
What are you currently working on: At present, I am settling into my job role as the Customer Service Administrative Support Assistant. My tasks include; scanning, updating key information such   as price sheets, shortages documents and statistic graphs, as well as providing support throughout the department as required. Since joining, I have also completed a number of training courses such as Level 2 and Level 3 Microsoft Excel alongside gaining my CIEH Level 3 Award in Training. I found the CIEH certificate extremely interesting as tasks included; two days theory
training, a written assignment, presentations (practice and real), peer assessments and self-
assessments. Although challenging, this particular course has developed my skills in many areas,
including written and verbal as well as increasing my confidence in developing and presenting
presentations to different groups of people.

My name is: Matty
When did you join EGGER: 2015, following my A-Levels in Maths and Biology alongside my two Level 3 BTECs in Business Studies and IT at Queen Elizabeth High School.
Why did you choose EGGER: After finishing my A-Levels I knew that University was not something that I was interested in, I wanted to work full time and learn from inside a business. Although I had a keen interest in Finance, I wanted to gain a broad understanding of business which is why this apprenticeship was ideal. When I first applied for the apprenticeship scheme, I had already secured a Summer Placement at EGGER within the Finance Department. I would recommend the Summer Placements to anyone looking to get involved in any aspect of the business as you get a good understanding of how each department works.
What are you currently working on: Following our recent Apprentice Induction week which involved presentations from different key departments, alongside a trip to one of our Timberpak Sites and out with a member of the EGGER Forestry team, I am now settling into my apprenticeship. My first placement block is within Finance working as part of the controlling team, which involves a variety of work such as producing reports or analysis of key figures for different managers as they require it. We also set the budgets for all departments as well as key projects and monitor these throughout the year.
I am also working on a specific project relating to Timberpak and Barony which I will discuss in more detail within a future blog.

In our next blog, you will meet the final three members of our team, our Electrical Apprentices.

Thank you for reading our blog, we hope you have found it interesting!

Meet 2 of our Business Administration Apprentices!

Friday, November 06, 2015 0 Comments A+ a-

Here is our third blog, introducing you to the 2 second year Business Administration Apprentices based at Hexham, working in our social media team!

Charlotte (I am on the left hand side)

  • When did you join EGGER: 2014
  • Why did you choose EGGER: I actually started a University Course in Business Management at Edinburgh and found that this was not for me. Ideally I wanted to take a more practical approach to learning about business and when I heard about this apprenticeship I felt that this would be the best option for me.
  • What are you currently working on: Throughout my first year I spent time in Customer Services and Logistics. I have recently moved to Purchasing where I am getting involved in the buying of products and services for the whole business. Part of my role involves meeting with suppliers and learning how to negotiate prices.
Natalie (I am on the right hand side):

  • When did you join EGGER: 2014, after completing my A-Levels in English Language, Applied Science and Sociology at Prudhoe Community High School.
  • Why did you choose EGGER: At the end of my A-levels I was unsure whether University was something I wanted to do, so I started to consider other options. I saw the Open Day advertised in the local paper and at school and thought I would go a long to get a better understanding of the opportunities available. After attending, I knew that EGGER was a Company that I wanted to be a part of. It was clear from the information I was given that each department I would spend time in was different, which would give me a broad understanding of the business.
  • What are you currently working on: I spent time in Logistics including Despatch and Production Planning during my first year, alongside 6 months in Customer Services. I have now started my placement in Finance and I’m currently in Purchase Ledger. This is where all invoices for EGGER UK (including Timberpak, Barony, Campact and Forestry) are processed and posted. I work with my colleagues posting invoices using the SAP system and check through any statements we receive off our suppliers to ensure all their invoices are processed.

Apprentice Open Day
We each came along to an Apprentice Open Day to get a better understanding of what an apprenticeship at EGGER had to offer and we would suggest that if you are interested you do the same.
