Charlotte's Post - Site Visit to Park Gate, Carlisle

Friday, January 22, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

I am currently working within the Purchasing team as part of my apprenticeship, so I am responsible for ordering both the mechanical and electrical goods needed for the site.

Back in November 2015, my colleague and I visited Park Gate in Carlisle, who are our main supplier of electrical motors.

Their Customer Service Engineer, Stephen Palmer, kindly gave us a tour of the site during our visit.

We were shown a number of key departments:

Motor Workshop

Here they have facilities to rewind, test, refurbish and repair motors. We were shown motors which had recently been repaired and the paperwork to support this, which contained test results and details of the repair.

On average, Park Gate repair 12 motors for EGGER per week, however due to recent flooding we have had to send over 50 motors to them to be dried and tested.

Panel Workshop

This is where Park Gate can create electrical panels to fit customer’s specific needs.

Electrical Motor Warehouse

After traveling 5 minutes down the road, we arrived at Park Gate’s Electrical Motor Warehouse, which is one of the Largest in Europe holding around 6,000 motors. Here they have motors dating back to 1946, when Park Gate were founded and the motors ranged from 15 KW to 800 WK, some of which had a value of over £20,000.

Visiting companies helps both EGGER and the supplier to gain a better understanding of the products/services they supply and also helps build a stronger buyer - supplier relationship.

I really enjoyed my visit to Park Gate, it helped me to gain more of an understanding about how electrical motors work and how they can be repaired.

We are having our next social media workshop next week, to come up with ideas for future blogs, so we will keep you updated!

Abby's Post - An insight into the Business Administration Apprenticeship

Monday, January 11, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

As part of the business apprenticeship at EGGER, we have monthly visits from Lorraine who is our National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) provider from Access Training. At the end of two years in an administration apprenticeship with EGGER, all participants leave with an Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

The work which we produce for this is very closely linked to the work that we carry out in our day to day jobs; often becoming a theoretical reflection of our practical work. This allows my work to contribute to my development within the different departments as I can build further knowledge and understanding of the work being carried out.

I am currently working within the Customer Services Department at EGGER, I am therefore completing the Customer Services unit of my NVQ, which helps me to solidify my practical learning as well as learning new methods of performing my role within Customer Services.

I have been in the department for 4 months now and I am learning a range of skills that will help towards my NVQ, such as handling mail and storing and retrieving information. These form part of other units that will contribute towards my final qualification however are also key to my daily job.
Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you have enjoyed learning more about the set up of our Business Apprenticeship scheme.

We will have a new blog for you next week, so keep an eye out.
