Matty and Abby’s First 6 Months with EGGER

As we moved into our new departments at the start of this week, we thought we would reflect back on what we have learnt and enjoyed during our first 6 months as EGGER Apprentices.

Matty

During my time in Controlling, I enjoyed preparing the pack of financial information provided to the Board of Directors as well as setting up reports for managers. I also had the opportunity to attend the month end meetings, where it was rewarding to see the managers throughout the discussions using the reports and information that I had set up for them. I also found these meetings very useful for learning about Barony and the subsidiary companies; Forestry and Timberpak, as you gain a lot of knowledge about these companies financially but also discuss different ideas for moving them forward, which gives a good overview of how they are run.
Whilst in Purchase Ledger for the second part of my placement in Finance, I was responsible for inputting invoices onto our computer system, alongside checking the account statements from our suppliers to ensure we have all of the invoices stated on our system. I also had to check any payment reminders to ensure that invoices were paid on time and learnt how to complete the payment runs to suppliers.  I spent a little time within Sales Ledger as well where I was shown how payments come into the bank from customers and how to allocate these against the appropriate invoices.
I am now starting within the Customer Services, I am specifically looking forward to seeing things from a different stage in the process and learning about our products and how we deal with orders from customers.
Abby
I have just finished the first section of my apprenticeship, which was within the Customer Services department. I am now looking forward to moving onto our Transport/Logistics department.
I really enjoyed Customer Services and being in a job role where direct contact with our customers is required. This allowed me to develop my communication skills, whilst also helping to broaden my knowledge of EGGER products, systems and production operations.
I am looking forward to having a different role within Transport and seeing how other departments within the business work. This will help me to understand how EGGER runs and where each department fits, building on the knowledge that I gained within Customer Services.
Thank you for reading our blog - we hope you have enjoyed it!
Our next blog will be written by Charlotte, ahead of her new position with EGGER.
